Sol

 

Sol neighborhood is one of the six administrative districts that make up the downtown district of the city of Madrid. It is understood by the square of Puerta del Sol , the headquarters of the Community of Madrid and zero kilometer. This district covers much importance to have the Puerta del Sol square and the Sol metro station , also known as Vodafone Sol Metro lines.

 

 

 

 

Within the district the Sun, the most important area as a tourist both historical is the Puerta del Sol square , also for being one of the most famous squares around Madrid. The construction of the plaza went through several stages : the beginning of the construction was the mid-eighteenth century with the House post office, a century later, between 1857 and 1862 got its respective form thanks to Lucio architects of the valley, Juan Rivera and José Morer ; finally, the gardens and fountain were added in the twentieth century , increasing pedestrian zone.

 

 

 

As a very tourist area , the neighborhood carries great attractions , right in the Puerta del Sol square Such as . 

 

 

 

Inside the Puerta del Sol square , you can see the Statue of the Bear and the Strawberry Tree . A sculpture of the second half of the twentieth century , is precisely on the eastern side of the square. This statue represents the heraldic arms of the town , making it a very attractive spot for tourists , each visitor has to take a picture with the statue to commemorate his stay in Madrid

 

 

 

The Royal Post Office is one of the most striking places in the Barrio el Sol , mainly in the Puerta del Sol square . It was built to be headquarters of the postal service and was designed in the Baroque style of the period , thanks to architect French Jaime Marquet . After having different functions , today is the presidential headquarters of the Community of Madrid. Thanks to his watch at the top of the building, it became an icon of Christmas , as citizens and tourists are present , have the tradition of welcoming the year under this watch with great joy and excitement.
